GLENDIVE – The Dawson Community College Lady Buccaneers exploded for nine runs in the first innings to beat Dakota County Technical College 11-2 Saturday and advance to the Region XIII championship game Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
The first seven batters were 7-7 to start the game, and Dawson was up by seven before their first out. Reannon Justice hit a three-run homerrun, while Kylee Hergenrider added a two-run shot. In the third, Hadley Bennett and Maycen O’Neal bombed back to back shots for a total of 4 homeruns on the day for the Lady Bucs.
Bennett and O’Neal were the stars of the game – Bennett finishied 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs, while O’Neal was 3-4 with 2 runs and an RBI.
Freshman Shelby Martin pitched all five innings, allowing only four hits and two runs while striking out seven. Martin also went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
The Lady Bucs are now 41-3 on the season and are gunning for their fifth straight Region 13 Championship.
