22-game softball win streak snapped for Dawson Community College

GLENDIVE – Dawson Community College’s softball women will look to start a new streak this weekend after their run of 22 straight wins came to an end after a recent split with Dickinson State.

Dawson Community College Softball Nabs Win Over Dickinson State University Despite Early 3-Run Inning 7-4

Even though Dawson Community College Softball gave up three runs in the fourth inning, they still defeated Dickinson State University 7-4 on Tuesday. Dickinson State University scored its runs on a home run by Welch. Dickinson State University got things moving in the first inning, when Shelby Martin threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Dickinson State.

In the bottom of the first inning, Dawson tied things up at one. Ashlyn Tingey grounded out, scoring one run. Lady Bucs pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jordyn O’Neal was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Trinity Anderson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Hadley Bennett singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Martin was on the rubber for Dawson. She surrendered four runs on two hits over six innings, striking out five.

Eilers was in the circle for Dickinson State. She allowed ten hits and seven runs over four innings. Allen threw two innings out of the bullpen. Lady Bucs tallied one home run on the day. Reannon Justice had a four bagger in the fifth inning. Dawson tallied 12 hits on the day. Justice, Anderson, Alison Ellertson, and Martin all had multiple hits for Dawson. Justice led Dawson with three hits in four at bats. Dickinson State was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Menke had the most chances in the field with five.

Coach LeProwse had this to say about his team’s performance, “We hit the ball very well in this game. We had 12 hits against a very good Dickinson State team. We moved runners very well and drove in runs when we had chances. I am very pleased with the way we played in this game. Shelby Martin did a great job only allowing two hits in this game.”

Dickinson State Runs Away With Early Lead in Victory 8-0

Dawson watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 8-0 loss to Dickinson State University on Tuesday. Dickinson State scored on a home run by Rodriguez and a home run by Allen in the first inning. The Lady Buccaneers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Dickinson State, giving up eight runs.  Dickinson State got things moving in the first inning. Rodriguez hit a solo homer.

One bright spot for Dawson was a single by Kylee Hergenrider in the fourth inning. Mesi led things off in the circle for Dickinson. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out two. Alexa Kappel led things off on the rubber for Lady Buccaneers. She went four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, striking out two and walking one. Jordyn O’Neal threw one-third of an inning in relief. Dickinson tallied three home runs on the day. Rodriguez had a homer in the first inning. Lawrene put one out in the fifth inning. Allen had a four bagger in the first inning. Camryn Huston and Hergenrider each collected one hit to lead Dawson.

Dickinson State tallied 14 hits in the game. Rodriguez.  Stephens , Lawrene , and Allen each had multiple hits for Dickinson. Rodriguez led Dickinson with four hits in four at bats.

Coach LeProwse said, “We did not hit the ball well at all in this game. We only had two hits and did not have many baserunners to be able to execute anything offensively in this game. Defensively we made some costly errors and Dickinson State capitalized on them. This game was the end of a 22 game winning streak for us, but hopefully we can start a new streak this weekend against Williston State College.”

Dawson Community College Softball Grabs Lead in Sixth Inning to Defeat North Dakota State College of Science 2-1

Dawson took the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday. The game was tied at one with Lady Bucs batting in the bottom of the sixth when Ashlyn Tingey hit a solo homer. The pitching was strong on both sides. Shelby Martin struck out eight, while Harder sat down six.

North Dakota State College of Science fired up the offense in the second inning, when Towle hit a solo homer. Dawson knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the fifth inning. An error scored one run for Dawson. Martin was in the pitcher’s circle for Dawson. She allowed three hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Harder toed the rubber for North Dakota State College of Science. She surrendered two runs on four hits over six innings, striking out six. Dawson tallied one home run on the day. Tingey put one out in the sixth inning. Reannon Justice went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dawson in hits. Lady Buccaneers was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Maycen O’Neal made the most plays with eight.

Coach LeProwse had this to say, “This was a great win for our softball team. We faced a very good pitcher and were able to come out on top. I always have faith in what my team can do when we are faced with a challenge. Someone always steps up and does something great and Ashlyn Tingey did just that by sparking us with a home run late in the game.”

Alexa Throws Shutout as Dawson Softball Defeats North Dakota Science 8-0

Alexa Kappel threw a shutout to lead Dawson Softball past North Dakota State College of Science 8-0 on Saturday. A double by Towle in the third inning was a positive for North Dakota Science.

Kappel led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Dawson. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one. Constant started the game for North Dakota Science. She went one inning, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one. Towle threw four and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Lady Buccaneers tallied one home run on the day. April Davis went for the long ball in the second inning. Dawson racked up 12 hits. Hadley Bennett, Jordyn O’Neal, Reannon Justice, Trinity Anderson, and Ashlyn Tingey each racked up multiple hits for Dawson. Tingey, Anderson, Justice, O’Neal, and Bennett each managed two hits to lead the Lady Bucs.

Coach LeProwse said, “We hit the ball much better in this game and were able to win by the run rule and end this one early. Alexa Kappel had another outstanding outing in the circle and ran her win total to 8-0. When our pitchers throw this well, we are tough to beat.”

Four RBI Day for Maycen O’Neal Seals the Deal in Dawson’s Victory Over North Dakota Science 17-4

Maycen O’Neal was an RBI machine on Sunday, driving in four on two hits to lead Dawson Community College past North Dakota State College of Science 17-4 on Sunday. O’Neal drove in runs on a home run in the second. Dawson fired up the offense in the first inning, when April Davis drew a walk, scoring one run. Lady Bucs put up seven runs in the third inning. Dawson offense in the inning was led by Shelby Martin, Hadley Bennett, Reannon Justice, and Martin, all driving in runs in the frame. Martin led things off in the circle for Dawson. She lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking one.

Harder toed the rubber for North Dakota Science. She surrendered five runs on four hits over two innings. Constant threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Lady Buccaneers launched two home runs on the day. Martin went yard in the third inning. O’Neal went for the long ball in the second inning. Dawson tallied 18 hits on the day. Jordyn O’Neal, Bennett, Trinity Anderson, Kylee Hergenrider , O’Neal, and Martin all collected multiple hits for Dawson. Bennett and O’Neal each collected three hits to lead Dawson.

Towle went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead North Dakota Science in hits.

LeProwse said, “We hit the ball extremely well in this game and were able to close it out early. We definitely displayed our power once again and came out with another win. Shelby Martin threw very well in the circle for us and kept the score low allowing us to win this one by the run rule.”

Dawson Claims Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat North Dakota Science 2-1

Dawson Softball nabbed the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over North Dakota on Sunday. The game was tied at one with Dawson batting in the top of the fifth when Jordyn O’Neal singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Alexa Kappel struck out five, while Harder sat down seven. Dawson knotted the game up at one in the top of the fourth inning, when Alison Ellertson hit a solo homer. Kappel got the start for Dawson. She surrendered one run on nine hits over seven innings, striking out five.

Harder was in the pitcher’s circle for North Dakota Science. She surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Lady Bucs hit one home run on the day. Ali Ellertson had a four bagger in the fourth inning. Trinity Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dawson in hits. North Dakota Science had nine hits in the game.

Constant, Sweep, Thompson, and Veu each managed multiple hits for North Dakota Science.

Coach LeProwse had this to say, “This was a great all-around game. NDSCS out hit us in this one, but we were still able to come out on top. We did a great job of limiting their scoring opportunities when they had runners on base. NDSCS is a very well coached program and has some very good players on their roster, so I feel very fortunate to come out of this weekend with four wins. We are now sitting at 26-2 and we will start preparing for our conference games against Williston State College this week.”
