MILES CITY – Sunday was a historic one in Kailey Gymnasium as the Miles Community College basketball women beat United Tribes Technical College 102-53 to close with a 30-0 record.

As MCC celebrated five sophomores on Sophomore Night, the Pioneers also celebrated history with the program’s first perfect regular season.

MCC took charge from the beginning and pulled away from the Thunderbirds early to take a 64-25 lead at the half. The second half was just as dominating. MCC’s defense had 23 steals and forced 40 turnovers, scoring 42 points off of those take aways.

Patrycja Jaworska led the Pioneers in scoring with 18, followed by Kate Golovkina with 12, Laura Moya with 11, and Lucia Salazar with 10. Caitlyn Barkins pulled down eight boards to lead the team. Jaworska also led with five assists. Salazar had four steals on the night.

The Pioneers will now host the Women’s Region XIII Tournament starting Friday.

General admission tickets will be sold at the door for $8/Adult, $6/Senior and $4/students and children. No regular season free passes will be accepted.

The tournament opens when No. 3 Bismarck State College takes on No. 6 Williston State College at 5:30 p.m. followed by No. 4 Lake Region State College vs. No. 5 Dawson Community College at 7:30.

The No. 1 seeded Pioneers will face the winner of Lake Region/Dawson at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The following game will be No. 2 NDSCS vs. the winner of Bismarck/Williston at 4 p.m.

The Championship will be decided on March 3 at 3 p.m. That winner faces the top team out of Region IV at their place on March 9. The winner of that showdown punches their ticket to Lubbock, TX for the NJCAA DIV I National Tournament March 18-23.
