GLENDIVE – Eric Amaya, from Belgrade, MT has signed on to run cross country and track for Dawson Community College. Eric is Coach Ben Sandy’s fourth athlete to join the Buccaneers’ running program. Eric has best times of 55.29 for the 400, 2:07.07 in the 800 and was the lead runner on his 4×400 relay while competing for Belgrade High School. Eric also played varsity football and varsity wrestling. He was an Academic All-State selection, he was awarded the Panther award for his hard work, and during the track season, he was awarded MVP.
Eric had this to say about attending Dawson, “I’m choosing to run for DCC because I am honored that I was offered a scholarship to run, it meant a lot to me when I was asked and I never thought that I would have gotten this far in my life.”
Coach Sandy is excited to see Eric develop into a distance runner, “What caught my attention about Eric was that he is young when it comes to his athletic age, he has only been participating in high school sports for a couple years and he has been successful. I’m excited to see what a little training does for Eric in terms of developing his endurance because his track times are fast enough that he has the potential to be a very good collegiate cross-country and track runner. After talking with Eric, I am impressed with how dedicated he is to making himself a better student and athlete as this attitude will take him far in sports and in life.”
