GLENDIVE – Dawson Community College has signed Cut Bank’s James Estey to run cross country for the Bucs.

Estey’s top track times are 55 seconds in the 400, 2 minutes, 10 seconds in the 800, and 5:10 in the 1600.

“James already has a distance runner’s mentality having been a wrestler and a swimmer,” said DCC head coach Ben Sandy. “Those two sports are very similar to running and both require persistence and endurance. I’m looking forward to watching James develop into a strong cross country and track runner.

Estey was a four-sport athlete during high school, where he played football, wrestled all four years and ran track for two years. He also participated in the Cut Bank Sharks and Boy Scouts of America clubs. Estey earned Academic all-State and ll-Conference sports awards, as well as an Eagle Scout honor.

“I chose to run for and attend DCC to not only continue an athletic career, but also to get ahead on my academics,” Estey said. “I think coach Sandy can improve my running ability far beyond what it is now, and will encourage a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the run!”

“James can go as far as his desire takes him in becoming a very good collegiate runner,” Sandy said. “I’m thrilled to be able to work with him.”
