(Dawson CC release)
GLENDIVE – Dawson Community College Assistant Baseball Coach Aaron Leanhardt has accepted a position as a minor league coach with the New York Yankees.
Leanhardt will serve as the hitting coach for one of the two rookie ball teams in the Gulf Coast League. The MLB draft will take place June 4-6, a few weeks later many of those first year players will report to rookie ball and play a 60 game season that will begin in mid-June and run thru late August.
“Lenny is one of a kind,” said DCC head coach Chris Lewis. “He has a work ethic that just isn’t comparable to anyone I have ever been around. In my 20+ years in coaching, I have never seen a work ethic like his… never. He was usually the first one in the building and the last one to leave, pretty much 7 days a week, from the start of the school year to the end. He hasn’t spent a lot of time in college baseball, but it didn’t take long for folks to start to notice the unique skill set that he brings to the table.
“Not only does he understand hitting as it relates to coaching, he understands the numbers, the data and the science behind it as well. It is great to see good people get rewarded with opportunities like this. Whether he stays in Minor League Baseball, goes up to the Major League level, or returns to college, he is going to have a very bright future. Our college, our program, our players and myself, were very blessed to have him be a part of Buccaneer Baseball this past season.”
Coach Leanhardt has already relocated to Tampa, Florida, which is home to the New York Yankees minor league complex.
