GLENDIVE – 5’10 Maddi Carman of Columbus, MT has decided to bring her talents to Dawson Community College. She signed her 2018-2019 National Letter of Intent to officially become a Lady Buccaneer.
Maddi played for head girl’s basketball coach Jeremy Burke. As team captain for the past two seasons, Maddi averaged 4 ppg and 5 rpg. She was also voted Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in 2017, lettering in volleyball and softball, and was Academic All-State throughout her high school career. Coach Burke led Columbus High School to an overall 12-6 season record, finishing 8-2 in Class B conference play. They won the regular season title and took 3rd in their district tournament play.
“Maddi has the character and work ethic that makes any program she is a part of better,” said Burke. “She dedicated herself to the weight room and was someone we could always count on to put in the time and effort to help our team improve.”
DCC Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. was also pleased with his new signee.
“It was really good to hear Maddi say she will be attending Dawson in the fall,” said Lagmay, Jr. “I think she has a lot more game to her than what she really shows. After a campus visit and evaluations throughout her career, as well as a solid performance at the Treasure State Classic, I’m thrilled to be working with a forward who is ready to compete in the paint, grabbing rebounds and defending in the post. Columbus has always produced good athletes for us, like when we had Rachael Ault and Kyla Rouane a few seasons ago. So we’re pretty confident we have another great signee.”
“Playing at the collegiate level has been a dream of mine ever since I was a little kid,” said Carman. “I’d like to thank everyone who has pushed me along the way, including my family, as well as all the coaches that have shaped me into the player I am today. I’m excited to get to work and become a better player as well as pursuing an education at a great school to become a nurse. I’d like to thank Coach Romeo for giving me this opportunity to follow one of my dreams.”
