BILLINGS – For the third consecutive week the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week award went to a Montana State University Billings hurler, as sophomore Steen Fredrickson claimed his second honor of the season announced by the conference office Monday.
Fredrickson had a career-high 10 strikeouts on Sunday against the University of Northern Colorado, helping the Yellowjackets claim their first-ever win against an NCAA Division I program. He also did the bulk of the lifting in helping MSUB achieve a team-record 17 total strikeouts in the game, as Sam Muskat added seven strikeouts in four relief innings to help the duo tie the all-time program mark.
The Ashland, Ore., native leads the GNAC with 17 strikeouts this season, and is now 2-0 on the year with a 4.91 earned run average in 14 2/3 innings pitched.
Before left-hander Sam Wong won GNAC Pitcher of the Week last week, Fredrickson claimed the honor during the first week of the 2018 season.
The Yellowjackets (5-4) finish their three-game series at Northern Colorado on Monday, before jumping into their 40-game GNAC schedule on the road next week at Concordia University.
