LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Football program added a dynamic high school player from the state of California to its 2018 recruiting class on Wednesday when it signed defensive tackle Mario Mora from Charter Oak High School in Covina, Calif. Mora’s signing brings Wyoming’s 2018 recruiting class to a total of 21.
The Cowboys were very aggressive during the early signing period in December, which resulted in an outstanding class of 20 high school student-athletes committing to Wyoming on the first day of the early signing period on Dec. 20, 2017.
“Mario (Mora) comes from a very good program in southern California. He played both ways as a defensive tackle and tight end in high school,” said Bohl. “He plays with a very high motor. We feel that Mario will fit well within our locker room and in our program. He comes from a great family, and we can’t wait for him to join our program this summer.
“Overall, we are extremely pleased with the young men who have committed to us starting last December through today. We feel this recruiting class will continue to move our program forward as we strive to compete for conference championships and postseason play.”
Mora’s play on the defensive line at Charter Oak High in Covina, Calif., attracted scholarship offers from six different Mountain West schools, including the Wyoming Cowboys who won the recruiting battle over Mora. During his high school career, he recorded 97 tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks and 19.0 quarterback hurries.
Today was the first day of the regular signing period for college football programs. The regular signing period runs through April 1, 2018.

Mario Mora was highly recruited by several Mountain West Conference schools. He was credited with 43 tackles his senior season (21 solo tackles and 22 assists). Among those 43 tackles were 8.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and 9.0 quarterback hurries. He recovered one fumble and scored a touchdown on that recovery. He also caught nine passes for 45 yards as a tight end, and scored a two-point conversion rushing. Mora helped lead Charter Oak High School to a 12-1 overall record, a 5-0 conference mark and a first-place finish in the Hacienda Conference. Charter Oak advanced all the way to the Semifinals of the 2017 CIF Southern Section Division 3 Playoffs. Charter Oak dominated Crespi, 55-14, in the First Round. The Chargers also defeated Westlake, 39-28, in the Quarterfinals, before losing in the Semifinals to eventual Southern Section Champion Rancho Verde, 22-41.
As a junior, Mora made 54 tackles (32 solo tackles and 22 assists). He had 9.0 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks and 10.0 quarterback hurries. He also forced one fumble and blocked one punt.
He concluded his high school career with 97 career tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 9.0 sacks and 19.0 quarterback hurries. He played for head coach Lou Farrar.
Mora had five other Mountain West schools who offered him scholarships, including: Air Force, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada and San Jose State.
