Gonzaga women run win streak to 13

SAN DIEGO — The Gonzaga women’s basketball team won its 13th consecutive game Thursday, pulling away from San Diego 63-44 in West Coast Conference action.

Former Fairfield High School star Jill Barta scored a team-high 13 points to pace the Bulldogs, who are now 11-0 in conference play. Barta, a redshirt junior, made four of her seven field goal attempts and converted five of six free throw attempts. She also added two rebounds and two assists.

The Bulldogs led just 15-14 after the first quarter but used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to open up a double-digit lead. They led by as many as 24 points in the third quarter. Gonzaga held USD to just 30.9 percent shooting for the game.

Chandler Smith added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Zags, while San Diego was led by Aubrey Ward-El’s 14 points.

Gonzaga (18-4 overall, 11-0 conference) wraps up a three-game road trip at BYU, which currently sits second in the WCC with a 7-3 record, on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MT).
