SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Jill Barta’s big week for the Gonzaga Bulldogs has netted her another award. The former Fairfield High School star was named the West Coast Conference women’s basketball player of the week, the league announced Monday.
Barta led the Zags in both points and rebounds during both of the team’s win last week. She scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Portland and put up 24 points and nine rebounds against San Francisco. Barta also added four assists against Portland and three steals at USF, blocking one shot in each game.
On the week, Barta averaged 22.5 points, eight rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and one block per game in just 22.5 minutes per game. She made 58.8 percent of her field goal attempts for the Zags, who have now won 10 consecutive games to start West Coast Conference play.
This is the third player of the week award this season for the redshirt junior, becoming the first Zag to win the award three times in a season since Courtney Vandersloot in 2010-11. Barta currently leads the Zags in points per game (18.5), rebounds per game (8.5), free throw percentage (84.0) and double-doubles (eight).
