SAN FRANCISCO — Jill Barta and the Gonzaga women’s basketball team dominated the second and third quarters on their way to an 81-57 West Coast Conference win over San Francisco on Saturday.
The Zags outscored San Francisco 23-9 in the second quarter and 22-12 in the third to pull away for their 10th consecutive win to start conference play. Gonzaga now sits at 17-4 overall and 10-0 in the WCC.
Former Fairfield High School star Barta scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Bulldogs. She added three steals and one block in 29 minutes of action. Fellow post player Zykera Rice added 14 points and five rebounds as Gonzaga utilized its advantage on the inside. The Bulldogs outscored San Francisco 46-18 in the paint and shot 51.4 percent for the game. Barta was 12 of 22 and Rice six of 11.
Anna Seilund led San Francisco with 16 points.
Gonzaga now holds a three-game lead in the West Coast Conference standings and remains on the road next week, traveling to San Diego for a 7 p.m. (MT) tipoff on Thursday.
