BILLINGS – MSU Billings’ basketball women return home Thursday night coming off their first conference road sweep in a couple years.
Remember, the Yellowjackets opened this season 9-0 for the best start in team history. Now they’re on a fresh run shooting for a fourth straight win against Saint Martin’s.
The spark has prompted generally conservative head coach Kevin Woodin to give his players a little additional motivation.
“He says he’s not shaving until we lose,” laughed forward Vanessa Stavish before a Wednesday practice, “so we’ll see if that carries through.”
“We won a game and he said he’s going to keep it until we lose,” smiled forward Grace Weeks.
Guard Lexi Prevost also chuckled, eager to see how far Woodin can take it.
“He said he wasn’t going to shave until we lost, so we’re going to keep that beard growing strong,” she said.
The facial scruff is still somewhat faint despite approaching two weeks of growth after wins over Central Washington, Western Oregon and Concordia. But it may ultimately be the key to a postseason run.
“Yeah, it’s like the playoff beard. I like it,” laughed Prevost.
“I mean, as of now, it’s working for him, so he’s going to keep going,” said Stavish.
