Posted

TEMPE, Ariz. — Tres Tinkle had another double-double, but Oregon State couldn’t hold off a ranked team on the road for the second time this week. The Beavers relinquished a 34-33 halftime lead, losing at No. 11 Arizona State 77-75 in a Pac-12 Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday.

Tinkle, who scored 18 points in the Beavers’ loss to No. 17 Arizona on Thursday, had 18 points and 10 rebounds against the Sun Devils. The former Missoula Hellgate star added four assists, but also had four turnovers while making six of 16 field goal attempts. He was two of seven from 3-point range and four of four at the free throw line.

Stephen Thompson Jr. led OSU with 21 points. Drew Eubanks and Ethan Thompson each added 11. Kendal Manuel, who helped lead Billings Skyview High School to the program’s first Class AA state championships in 2015, scored three points for the Beavers.

OSU, which is coached by former Montana coach Wayne Tinkle, led by as many as 13 points — 57-44 with 11:32 to play — and 68-67 with 2:30 remaining, but ASU took the lead on a Remy Martin layup and held off the Beavers the rest of the way.

Shannon Evans II had 22 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead the Sun Devils.

Oregon State (10-7 overall, 2-3 conference) returns home to face UCLA on Thursday.
