Jill Barta, Gonzaga drill San Francisco, improve to 6-0

SPOKANE — Jill Barta rebounded from her lowest-scoring game of the season with a 14-point, six-rebound outing to help Gonzaga to a 74-47 women’s basketball win over San Francisco on Saturday.

Barta, who compiled a 104-0 record while playing at Fairfield High School, scored just four points in the Bulldogs’ win on Thursday. The redshirt junior answered with 14 points in 25 minutes on Saturday, helping Gonzaga improve to 6-0 in West Coast Conference action.

Gonzaga employed a balanced attack against San Francisco with 10 players finding the scoring column, including four in double digits. Jessie Loera had a team-high 15 points and nine assists. Emma Stach contributed 11 points and Zykera Rice added 10.

Anna Pierce led San Francisco with 16 points.

The Zags held a 16-7 lead after the first quarter, but opened up a big lead in the second quarter. They led 39-17 at halftime, holding San Francisco to just 6-of-29 shooting.

Barta and Gonzaga (13-4 overall, 6-0 conference) go back on the road this week, traveling to Saint Mary’s on Thursday.
