THREE FORKS — With two games left in the regular season, Three Forks volleyball (0-7) headed into Tuesday night searching for its first win of the year against the Whitehall Trojans (3-5). Whitehall swept Three Forks nearly a month ago, but Tuesday's match didn't come as easy for the Trojans. After falling in the opening set, Whitehall bounced back and finished victorious after four sets, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 28-26.
It was back and forth from the get-go, with each team going point-for-point in Set 1. With the set tied at 23, Three Forks was not going to let this one slip away. Whitehall sent a free ball over the net after recovering from a tipped ball, but the easy pass set up a textbook bump, set and spike from middle hitter Natalie Pestel. Whitehall was able to get a hand on it but could not gain control. The Wolves won Set 1, 25-23.
Whitehall got back into its groove the second set with a sister-sister connection. Up by six toward the end of Set 2, Whitehall's Meagan Johnson dug a ball to setter Haley Briggs. She set it outside to her sister Linday who came in with the hammer, making it 22-15 White Hall. The Trojans would go on to win Set 2.
Three Forks made a great comeback in Set 3, but in the end it was all Whitehall. Trojan senior Kendra Klapan spiked the set-winner right through a gap in Three Forks' block attempt, but that wasn't her best play of the night.
Three Forks was down by five at the end of Set 4 but rallied its way to tie it up at 26. Three Forks setter Macey Jensen bumped over a free ball, giving Whitehall’s Klapan a chance to get in hitter position. With the game on the line, she wound up for the kill but ended up tricking Three Forks and set it to the back corner. Whitehall won by two, 28-26.
Three Forks has one last game this Saturday against Big Timber (3-5).
