BUTTE- The Maroon Activity Center, home of Butte Central athletics, was home to the 2019 Western A divisional tournament on Saturday. The top eight wrestlers from each weight class advance to the state tournament next week in Billings.
Polson had just two individual champions on the day — Bridger Wenzel won the 152-pound title over Libby-Troy’s Hunter Hoover by pinning Hoover in the first period, while Hunter Fritsch added a win at 170 pounds.
Polson, though, saw a handful of wrestlers finish in the top eight to advance to the state tournament. Rene Pierre finished second at 113 pounds, Kendrick Baker finished third at 120, Logan Adler finished third at 182 and Jasper Drake came in fourth at 285.
Frenchtown finished in second place, just one point behind the Pirates for the team title. Walker Dyer (113 pounds) and Jake Bibler (120) were the Broncs’ only winners, while Tate Jones finished second at 182.
