GLASGOW — When Tanner and Cooper Cook moved from Shepherd to Columbus earlier this winter, it changed the prospects for the Cougars’ wrestling program.

The team was already sprinkled with wrestlers chasing individual titles, hoping for a shot at a team trophy when the State B/C tournament begins in Billings at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark on Feb. 8. The Cooks have added to those hopes.

Tanner remains No. 1 in the latest Class B/C wrestling poll, holding the top spot at 113 pounds, while Cooper landed at No. 4 in the 120-pound weight class. Columbus-Absarokee is ranked fourth in the latest team poll, and should contend for a trophy at state.

Weston Timberman, who was crowned champion and given the JJ Werdal most outstanding wrestler award after winning the Choteau Classic earlier this month, sits No. 2 at 13 pounds behind Circle’s Krayle Stormer. The duo could battle for the state title on Feb. 9 in Billings.

Dylan Raihl, who finished fifth at state as a junior last winter, remains No. 2 behind Forsyth three-time champion Michael Weber at 152 pounds. Raihl has earned a handful of first-place finishes at tournaments this season and should contend for a podium spot at state.

Heavyweight Carter Beers is the final ranked wrestler for the Cougars, holding onto the No. 6 slot at 285 pounds.

The top-ranked wrestlers all remained the same from last week’s polls, while Colstrip, Glasgow and Huntley Project held firm in the top three spots of the team poll. The Colts enter the Eastern B/C divisional in Forsyth with Jackson Currier (138 pounds), Ty Bradley (160), Nakoda Siegel (182) and Trey Yates (285) all No. 1.

Colten Fast (126) and Oden Hallock (132) are top-ranked for the Scotties, while Cut Bank’s JR Seewald and Florence’s Spencer Jones held their top spots at 170 and 205 pounds, respectively.

Circle’s Trey Taylor joins Stormer at No. 1 for the Wildcats, sitting atop the 145-pound class. Circle, Valier and Arlee remain the top three teams in the Class C poll.
