SIDNEY — Class A’s finest held off Class B’s best in an inter-class wrestling dual on Tuesday evening as Sidney defeated Colstrip 37-24 in a battle of top-ranked teams.
Ranked No. 1 in Class A, defending state champion Sidney won seven of the first eight matches against Class B No. 1 and defending state champion Colstrip, but the Colts earned five wins from 160 to 285 pounds, including a pin from 205-pound Beau Peterson.
Sidney’s 145-pound Christian Dean, who was the lone newcomer to the No. 1 slot in Class A’s individual rankings last week, earned a hard-fought 1-0 decision over Rylin Burns in a highly anticipated match. Sidney’s top-ranked Aden Graves also won, his coming via pinfall at 132 pounds. Jett Jones, the third top-ranked wrestler for Guy Melby’s Eagles, fell to No. 1 Nakoda Siegel in a 10-4 decision at 182 pounds.
Colstrip 160-pounder Ty Bradley, another top-ranked Class B wrestler, defeated Riley Waters in a 7-4 decision, while heavyweight Trey Yates showcased his No. 1 Class B ranking with a 3-1 decision over Brodey Skogen.
Cody Blaede, ranked No. 2 in the Class B polls last week, edged No. 3 Trevor Dean in a 6-4 decision in the 170-pound bout.
Jordan Darby and Everett Jensen earned back-to-back wins for the Eagles at 120 and 126, respectively, each winning by fall.
