HELENA — Helena Capital was superior to Helena High on the wrestling mat on Friday evening, as the Bruins defeated the Bengals in a dual, 48-20.
The crosstown match began heavily in Capital’s favor, as it trotted out ranked wrestlers Noah Kovick (170), Jake Slagel (182) and Seth Jensen (285). Slagel, however, was upset by Helena High’s Jacob Manibusan to get the Bengals on the board.
Helena’s Isaac Romero, currently the third-ranked Class AA wrestler at 126 pounds, dropped to 120 to face Capital’s Carson DeRosier. DeRosier shocked Romero and won the match by decision, ultimately turning the momentum back in favor of the Bruins after a pair of Helena High wins.
Both teams will be in Bozeman on Saturday to face off with Bozeman, Belgrade and Butte.
