BILLINGS – It’s been 23 years since Billings West was the highest Billings Class AA finisher at the Montana High School Association state wrestling tournament. This year’s Bears are aiming to update that number.

West took an early lead and held on down the stretch for a 30-29 dual win over Billings Skyview on Tuesday. State heavyweight favorite Levi Malcolm opened the night with a pin, as West followed with wins at 103, 113, and 120 pounds.

RJ Lowdog, who had both lower legs amputated shortly after he was born, was among West’s winners at 120.

The Bears were ranked No. 4 in the initial Class AA wrestling poll on Dec. 12, and finished second to top-ranked Bozeman at last weekend’s prestigious CMR Holiday Invite.
