BOZEMAN — The Bozeman Hawks are holding their annual summer wrestling camp this week through July 12. Coach Nate Laslovich and his staff always bring in campers from all over the state and beyond to get hands-on learning from some of the best.
This year’s volunteer coaches included members of the Purdue wrestling team and assistant coach Tyrel Todd, who is a Bozeman High graduate. Todd was a three-time state champion at Bozeman in the early 2000s before becoming a three-time all-American at the University of Michigan. He joined the Purdue staff in 2014 and was promoted to head assistant coach in 2016.
The camp lasts four days and covers everything from skills and technique to character-building.
“The guys talk to them about different characteristics in wrestling and in life,” Laslovich said. “We have other guys in the community that come and talk, but mostly we like to get these Purdue guys in front of them and some of our coaching staff and talk about what would be beneficial to them for wrestling and life.”
Junior Leif Schroeder agreed that the camp is beneficial but enjoys the technical aspect of it.
“I think it helps a lot of our guys [since] we’re doing duals here, they can get a feel for what they need to work on, which is good for both sides, to get a feel and know what they need to work on going into season,” Schroeder said.
