District 11C volleyball highlights: Manhattan Christian, Gardiner to meet in semifinals

CHURCHILL – The Manhattan Christian and Gardiner volleyball teams each have one loss this season and they came at the hands of one another. Now the two will meet in the District 11C undefeated semifinal in Churchill Thursday night.

The tournament kicked off Wednesday morning with third-seeded Lone Peak taking on sixth-seeded Shields Valley. The Bighorns came out with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-12 win over the Rebels. Riding that momentum, Lone Peak played the host of the tournament, second-seeded Manhattan Christian, but lost to the Eagles 25-22, 25-16, 15-13.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 White Sulphur Springs battled against No. 5 West Yellowstone in the closest match of the opening day. It took all five sets, but the Wolverines emerged victorious with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-27, 25-20, 15-8 victory over the Hornets.

West Yellowstone then faced top-seeded Gardiner in the quarterfinals, but it was all Bruins in the nightcap. Gardiner swept the Wolverines 25-11, 25-7, 25-14 on its way to the semifinal.

The District 11C tournaments continues Thursday at the Manhattan Christian Events Center beginning at 2 p.m. and Manhattan Christian squares off against Gardiner at 7 p.m.
