There’s a new No. 1 in the eyes of Class AA volleyball coaches.
Rebecca Cleveland’s Helena Capital squad broke last week’s tie atop the rankings to sit alone at No. 1 in the polls this week, as voted on by Class AA coaches across the state. The Bruins are 14-1 overall and 4-0 in the Western AA after a weekend sweep of Kalispell Flathead and Kalispell Glacier.
Helena Capital meets No. 2 Helena High (13-2 overall, 4-0 league) Tuesday night in a key crosstown showdown.
The Bruins and Bengals jumped past Billings Senior, which fell to third, after the Broncs dropped a straight-set match to Great Falls CMR last Friday. The Rustlers downed the Broncs 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 in the Eastern AA win. The loss drops Senior (15-4, 3-1) behind Billings West (10-5, 4-0) in the conference standings, while West is ranked No. 4 in the coaches poll.
Kalispell Flathead (8-8, 2-2) is No. 5 in the weekly polls. Missoula Sentinel, Bozeman and CMR each received votes.
