LOS ANGELES — Twelve Montana high school athletes will compete at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational track and field meet in Los Angeles this weekend, facing some of the top competition in the entire country.

Missoula Sentinel junior Lauren Heggen, Montana’s all-class state record holder in the triple jump, headlines the Montana athletes competing in California. Heggen will compete in the women’s triple jump invitational on Saturday evening and the women’s 100-meter hurdles on Saturday afternoon. She will also compete in the women’s long jump on Saturday afternoon. Heggen won the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles at last year’s State AA meet and placed fourth in the long jump.

Heggen will be joined by several runners from around the state. Bozeman’s Terra Trom will compete in the 3,200-meter run invitational on Saturday night. Trom placed fifth in the 800 at last year’s State AA meet.

Missoula Hellgate’s Elise Sterns will run in the women’s one-mile seeded, while teammates Ember Stratton and Ella DeGrandpre will run in the 3,200-meter run seeded, as will Bozeman’s Alex Moore. Hellgate’s Katie Munro will run in the mile, while Bozeman’s Natalie McCormick will run in the 3,200-meter run rated and Bridget Boyle will run the 800. DeGrandpre, Moore and McCormick all placed in the top eight in the 3,200 at last year’s State AA meet. Hellgate’s four athletes will also run in the women’s 4×1,600-meter relay invitational on Friday night.

Just three male athletes will represent Montana this year. Helena High junior Trey Tintinger will compete in the high jump. A two-time defending state champion, Tintinger holds the Montana record with a jump of 7 feet, 1.5 inches. He’ll compete at the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday.

Huntley Project’s Bradley Graves, the 2018 Class B 110-meter hurdles state champion and 300 hurdles runner-up, will run in the 110 hurdles seeded and the 300 hurdles on Saturday. Laurel’s Levi Taylor will also have two events over the weekend, competing in the men’s one-mile and the 3,200 rated. The 3,200 will be Friday night and the mile Saturday morning.
