Eastern AA, Eastern A, Eastern B/C divisional softball tournaments canceled

BILLINGS — The Eastern AA and B/C divisional softball tournaments in Billings have been canceled.

The tournaments were scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday at Stewart Park in Billings. Great Falls Central opened the Eastern B/C tournament Thursday night with a 21-17 win over Shelby.

The tournaments were scheduled to resume Friday morning with 9 a.m. games, but rain postponed — and ultimately canceled — those games. With rain hammering Billings, tournament officials elected to cancel the entire tournaments and advance the top four seeds, based on regular-season play, to the state tournaments.

Great Falls High, Billings Skyview, Billings West and Billings Senior will advance to the Class AA state tournament, which is scheduled to be played in Butte May 23-25.

Huntley Project, Cut Bank, Conrad-Choteau and Shepherd will advance to the Class B/C state tournament, which is scheduled to be played in Belgrade May 23-25.

The Eastern A also announced the cancellation of that tournament, which started Thursday in Sidney. Poor field conditions and a rainy forecast canceled Friday’s scheduled games.

Hardin, Laurel and Miles City will represent the Eastern A at the State A tournament May 23-25 in Polson.
