HELENA — Despite the wintry weather, Helena High is making strides on the diamond.
The season-opening Great Falls Jamboree, which hosts softball teams from various parts of the state, was cancelled, so Helena High made the trip to Missoula where it was able to play some games prior to opening its regular season this Thursday against Great Falls High and CMR.
“We executed some things in games that were really positive for us in terms of just getting a job done, executing a bunt here or there,” said head coach Ryan Schulte.
Though the Bengals’ softball team hasn’t had much time to field ground balls or fly balls, Schulte admitted his team surpassed his expectations.
“Our fielding; I thought we’d be a little sloppier in the field, honestly, but I felt like we got better each game that we played,” said Schulte.
The Bengals will get an opportunity to improve their fielding and their record when they host Great Falls High and CMR on Thursday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
