CORVALLIS — The Ronan Maidens came to Corvallis on Thursday night and upset the Blue Devils on their home court with a 3-0 sweep.

Coming into the game the Blue Devils were riding a seven-game winning streak after their lone loss of the season to undefeated Columbia Falls on Oct. 3.

The Ronan Maidens on the other hand went back and forth with struggles and success with a 7-7 record coming into the first round of the divisional tournament. However, they were coming off a play-in win over the Libby Loggers on Wednesday night.

In the first set, both teams battled back and forth to gain momentum. Eventually, Ronan pulled away to win the first set 25-17.

From there on, it was the Maidens who looked like the team with all the momentum.

In the second set, Ronan came out firing on all cylinders by taking an early 5-2 lead.

Corvallis clawed their way back, making it 14-18, then 19-17, but could never take the lead. Ronan took the second set 25-22 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

In the third set, the Maidens put the nail in the coffin, taking a 25-18 win to complete the sweep against the top team in the Southwestern A division.

"We had a really big win against Libby last night in our play endgame," said Ronan head coach Lacey Phelan. "We’ve switched things around a lot rotation-wise throughout the season just to see what works best for us and we have kind of put it together at the right time and we are peaking at the right time."

"We’ve kind of talked a lot about this game since last night but we were pretty confident coming in," said junior LaReina Cordova."We work well together as a team, and just from our game last night we’ve had our highest and I think that we’ve been playing really well. I’m really confident in how our future is going to go with this team."

The Ronan Maidens (8-7) will take on the Polson Pirates (9-4) in the semifinal round of the divisional tournament on Thursday.
