MISSOULA — The Whitefish High School girls doubles tennis team of Olivia Potthoff and Aubrey Hanks started its title run with an impressive win over last year’s runner-up Hardin girls.

Then Hanks and Potthoff won in straight sets in the semifinal to take on a tough Polson team in the final.

In the final, Whitefish dropped the first set but stormed back to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-1 to claim the State A title in their final season together.

The Bulldogs talked about why the title meant so much to them.

“We have busted our butt for this. This was our goal at the end of the season and we accomplished it, which is so cool,” Potthoff said. “We knew it was going to be such a battle. The fact that we just pulled it off at the perfect timing, too.”

“We love tennis more than anything, and so we worked really hard for this,” Hanks said. “It feels so good. I feel like it’s not real. We lost to them two games before and it was a third set, so we didn’t know how it was going to go.”
