The State B/C tennis tournament wrapped up Saturday in Bozeman, and the Great Falls Central boys turned in another dominant performance for a team title.
The Mustangs were anchored by the state champion doubles pairing of Wyatt Walters and Nick Scott. Last year, Scott won a state singles title and decided to pair with Walters in 2019 to avoid an all GFCC singles final and to try to grab more team points.
There were some bumps in the road, but it paid off for the duo.
“I just have a lot more fun in doubles,” Scott said. “Because in singles you don’t have a partner to lift you up, besides a coach, and they can only do so much.”
“It was a lot of fun. We had to work through a couple injuries,” Walters added. “But we just locked in, rested right, ate right and put ourselves in a position to win. It was a great tournament and I don’t think I’m going to forget it any time soon.”
For a second straight year, Scott pulled double duty, finishing tied for 21st at the State C golf tournament at Seeley Lake earlier in the week before heading to Bozeman for tennis on the weekend.
