GREAT FALLS- The Bozeman girls and Missoula Sentinel boys took home team titles in the AA state tennis tournament in Great Falls on Friday.
It was the eighth straight state championship for the Bozeman girls, who scored 30 team points to win, followed by Missoula Hellgate at 20 points and Billings Senior at 17. Missoula Sentinel’s boys scored 27 total points, followed by Hellgate with 16 and Bozeman with 15. All matches of the day were played indoors at the Meadow Lark Country Club because of rain.
Sophomore Maicy McCarty led the way for the Bozeman, winning the singles title match over Hellgate’s Hannah Worden 6-0, 6-3.
“I just tried to play confident and strong, but it was interesting because there was so many people on the sidelines watching and cheering,” Maicy McCarty.
Annie Woods and Gigi Montague of Billings Senior won the girls doubles title over Bozeman’s Sasha Hathaway and Laurel Ward, 6-1,6-0.
On the boys side, Missoula Sentinel’s boys doubles tandem of Cody Curtis and Connor D’Angelo defeated Billings West’s Timmy Johnson and Jayden Ostler to take home the championship 6-3, 6-2.
In boys singles, Kalispell Glacier sophomore Rory Smith defeated Bozeman’s Connor Joly 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
“I feel really good about it. There were a lot of good players in this tournament, so just to be able to be at the top, it feels really special,” Smith said.
