MISSOULA — Missoula Loyola’s Katie Fagg finished as the runner-up the past two years at the Class B state golf tournament. In 2019 she got over the hump and came away with the title.

Fagg shot a 74 on Day 1 to take a three-shot lead. On Day 2, she did what she needed to do to come away with the title. Shelby’s Skyler Martin shot a 77 on Day 1 but an 84 on Day 2 to fall back. However, Fagg also dropped a lot of shots on Day 2, shooting an 82.

In the end, Fagg avoided becoming runner-up for the third straight year. She got the chip off her shoulder, winning with a total score of 156 in helping lead the Breakers to the team title.

“It’s amazing. It’s really rewarding to know that all my hard work for the past four years has finally paid off,” she said. “I love this course, I practice here all summer, I spend most of my time here in the summer. It’s really awesome to be able to get the gold here on my home course and have all my friends and family be able to watch that.”
