BOZEMAN — The boys and girls Class B/C state tennis tournament kicked off Thursday morning in the Gallatin Valley, with the boys and girls splitting their matches between Bozeman High School and Montana State University’s tennis facility.
Rainy weather delayed the boys matches at the start of the tournament, but they finished through the quarterfinals. A few big names remain in Friday’s semifinals like last year’s state runner-up Roger Mai of Great Falls Central and third-place finisher Trey Christaens of Bigfork. He will face Anaconda’s LeRoy Wilson for a spot in the championship game.
In boys doubles, the defending champion Reichenbach brothers of Bigfork cruised into the semifinals. Last year’s individual champion, sophomore Nicholas Scott of Great Falls Central, has helped lead his team into the semifinals, as well.
On the girls side, many of the top individual players have graduated since the previous state tournament, leaving the field open for players like Fairfield’s Emily Clotfelter. She finished third at state last year and will face a tough test in freshman Evelyn Deschens of Missoula Loyola in the quarterfinals on Friday.
