MISSOULA — It’s time to meet another star in the running for student-athlete of the year at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet. Valley Christian’s one nominee is Benjamin Tuinstra.

Tuinstra won the 110-meter hurdles at last year’s Class C state meet and currently has the third-fastest Class C time this season. He also has the classification’s second-fastest time in the 300 hurdles this season.

Tuinstra also stayed active in soccer and band for four years while carrying a 4.0 GPA, but track is Tuinstra’s top choice. That’s why he has to make a tough decision right now that every athlete eventually faces: continue to compete, or start working toward something else.

“I’m trying to decide right now whether money or being able to run is the biggest factor in my college search,” said Tuinstra, who has an option to compete in college but at a higher tuition cost than another one of his college choices. “I do want to run, that would be fantastic. I love it. I love hurdles, love the sprints. So it’s really a great opportunity.”

Tuinstra and the rest of our nominees and award winners will be honored at the KPAX Sports Awards Banquet Wednesday night. The fun starts at the Hilton Garden Inn at 5:30 p.m.
