HELENA — In two days Helena High has seen as many individuals sign letters of intent to compete at the next level.

Tristan Thompson signed his letter of intent to compete as a track and field athlete at Valley City State University in North Dakota, and prior to this year, Thompson didn’t even consider competing past the high school level.

“I didn’t think it was really going to happen until mid-January when I actually started talking to more schools,” Thompson said. “I was like, ‘All right, this might be something I can continue to do.'”

Helena High senior Isaac Romero also chose to go out of state. The wrestling standout chose to go to Loras College in Iowa, saying it was a way to get out of his comfort zone.

“I feel like when you go to college, you shouldn’t just stay in state. College is the time of your life where you should go out of state, go and experience new things, go out of your comfort zone and just get as much as you can out of life,” Romero said.
