Missoula Big Sky girls notch big win on busy day in Western AA soccer

MISSOULA – The Missoula Big Sky girls soccer team continues to prove it will be a force in the Western AA conference this season.

The Eagles scored three times in the second half to pull away from the defending state champion Helena High Bengals. Big Sky beat the Bengals 5-1. Hannah Santamaria showed great patience when the ball reached her feet early in the second half and she knocked in the goal with her left foot to push the Big Sky lead to 3-1. Then, with 16 minutes left, Mazey Kasberg pushed ahead a dangerous pass in front. Whitney Morrison slipped in to control the ball and put away another goal as Big Sky pulled away.

Helena followed with a shutout 6-0 win in the boys match.

In Kalispell, the Missoula Hellgate boys and girls teams remained in first place in the conference. The Knight boys blew out Kalispell Glacier, 8-1. The Knight girls shutout the Wolfpack, 1-0.

The Missoula Sentinel boys also notched an important conference win, 1-0 at Kalispell Flathead.
