BUTTE – The Bozeman Hawks proved their dominance over rival Butte on the road Tuesday night as the boys and girls swept the Bulldogs by both pitching clean sheets.
The Bulldog defense started strong in the first half of the girls game, only allowing one goal by Bozeman’s Addi Ekstrom, but the floodgates opened in the second. Bozeman, the state runner-up last year, fired in four goals to take a commanding 5-0 victory.
Meanwhile on the boys side, Bozeman came out quickly in the first half, as Austin Klein netted a goal in the 27th minute of the game and the Hawks didn’t look back. The Bulldogs made a few costly mistakes — they drew a foul in the box that allowed Bozeman’s Jack Benson to score on a penalty kick, putting the Hawks up 2-0 early.
Bozeman took a 5-0 lead into the locker room and didn’t relent in the second half, sending four more balls to the back of the net to take down Butte, 9-0.
The Hawks are back in action Sept. 14 against Great Falls CMR at home. Both Butte squads will hit the pitch on the road against Billings Senior.
