MISSOULA — The Missoula Hellgate girls and Missoula Sentinel boys basketball teams completed crosstown sweeps of their rivals on Tuesday evening.
The Hellgate girls topped the Spartans 46-36 while the Sentinel boys defeated the Knights 65-56.
Hellgate girls 46, Sentinel 36
Bailee Sayler led Hellgate with 15 points while Addy Heaphy added 10 for the Knights (11-1). Olivia Huntsinger paced Sentinel (6-6) with nine points while Brooke Stayner added eight.
Heaphy led Hellgate in the first half, scoring all 10 of her points, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the Knights into halftime up 24-18. Then, leading 31-25 heading into the fourth quarter, Sayler scored scored nine of her points in the final quarter to seal the win and crosstown sweep of Sentinel for Hellgate.
Sentinel boys 65, Hellgate 56
In the boys game, Sentinel (12-0) was led by Alex Germer who tallied 16 points while TJ Rausch and Soren Syvrud each scored 11 and Tony Frohlich-Fair added 10. Hellgate (9-4) was led by Brogan Callaghan who had 17.
A back-and-forth contest, Hellgate went into the fourth quarter up 39-38 after a layup from Callaghan. Then with the game tied 49-49 with less than four minutes to play, Germer spurred a 7-0 Spartan run with a three-point play and 3-pointer, as Hellgate could only get back within three points before Sentinel finished off the victory.
