MANHATTAN — The 2019 Class C state volleyball champion Manhattan Christian Eagles were looking to start their season off on the right foot in their opener against Choteau on Saturday.

However, the Bulldogs would have other plans for the Eagles. In the first set, MCHS would try to come back from a 24-19 deficit but the Eagles could not, giving Choteau a 25-22 win.

That little spark at the end of the first would get Manhattan Christian rolling, though, as it rolled in Set 2, capped off by a Kiersten VanKirk spike to take it 25-19. VanKirk would finish the match with 28 kills.

Choteau was on fire to start the third set, jumping out to an early 10-1 lead on its way to a 25-16 win.

MCHS would eventually win Set 4 and force a tie-breaking fifth set.

At 13-all, VanKirk would get one of those 28 kills to force match point. She then came up clutch and aced the serve to win the game, giving the Eagles the 22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-19, 15-13 win.
