BILLINGS — The Laurel Locomotives got two big wins over rival Billings Central in the driving rain Saturday on Wendy's Field at Rocky to take control of the Eastern A soccer races.
Morgan and Mya Maack each scored twice for the Laurel girls, who took a 5-1 lead on the defending champion Lady Rams before holding on for a 5-3 win. Older sister Morgan opened the scoring eight minutes into the first half. Mya doubled Laurel's advantage later in the half, before Central's Morgan Ferestad pulled the Rams back within 2-1. Gracey Willis restored Laurel's two-goal cushion late in the half however to make it 3-1 Locos.
Morgan made it 4-1 early in the second half, before Mya added her second for a 5-1 lead.
Laurel moves to 9-1 overall, 2-0 atop the Eastern A. Central falls to 8-1, and 0-1 in conference.
Laurel's boys meanwhile squandered a 3-0 lead in th second half, but Noah Berg scored on a corner kick with six minutes to play to give the Locos a 4-3 win and the sweep.
Ethan Meccage scored twice in the span of one minute late in the first half to put the Locos up 2-0. They added a third early in the second, but Central responded with three goals inside 10 minutes, two from Camden Capser, to tie it up.
The win moves Laurel to 8-2 overall, 2-0 in conference, while Central drops to 5-3-1, 0-1.
The teams will meet again next Saturday, Oct. 5 in Laurel.
