BOZEMAN — The Kalispell Glacier girls and Bozeman High boys punched their tickets to the Class AA state soccer championships with semifinal wins on Tuesday. Glacier's girls got a 2-1 win over Bozeman in the matinee, while Bozeman's boys secured a 2-0 win over Missoula Sentinel in the late match.
Early in the second period of the girls game, fourth-seeded Glacier was looking to get on the board, and Emily Cleveland drilled one in from far out to put the Wolfpack ahead 1-0.
Bozeman, the No. 3 seed out of the East, would eventually score to make it 1-1, and that would be the score to end regulation, sending the game into overtime.
In the second half of overtime, Glacier's Reagan Brisendine received the ball off the free kick and booted it in the net to put Glacier up 2-1.
As time was running out Bozeman would have one last chance, but Wolfpack goalkeeper Ella Wilson made the stop just before the final whistle sounded.
Glacier will face either Helena High or Missoula Hellgate in the championship match, which is scheduled for Saturday. Helena and Hellgate play their semifinal match on Wednesday.
The No. 1-seeded Bozeman boys took on the sixth-seeded Missoula Sentinel, and both goalies stepped up big to start the match, as the Hawks' Malachi Allen and the Spartans' Will Thomas did not allow a goal in the first half.
However, the Bozeman offense would break free 65 minutes into the game. After a couple of bounces on a free kick, Hawks junior Samuel Robinson kicked it in from point-blank range. That put Bozeman up by 1-0.
Less than two minutes later, Bozeman star senior Drew Johnson dribbled it past the net on the far side and kicked it back to the opposite corner past the keeper for a goal. That put the Hawks up 2-0, and they would win by the same score.
Bozeman will host Missoula Hellgate in the state championship match on Saturday.
