GREAT FALLS — Joelnell Momberg helped lead Box Elder to its second consecutive Class C girls basketball state championship on Saturday.

On Monday, Momberg was named the MontanaSports.com MVP of the tournament, leading three Box Elder girls on the all-tournament teams. Momberg, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, averaged 20.7 points per game during the Bears’ run to the championship, but she also terrorized opposing offenses with her defense. Momberg averaged four steals per game as the Bears defeated Ekalaka, Savage and Roy-Winifred last weekend at Pacific Steel & Recycling Four Seasons Arena.

Momberg is joined by teammate Lilly Gopher, Scobey’s Kortney Nelson, and Roy-Winifred’s Dyauni Boyce and Madeline Heggem on the MontanaSports.com all-tournament first team. Gopher, one of Box Elder’s five seniors, averaged 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during the tournament.

Nelson helped Scobey earn the third-place trophy, defeating Savage in the consolation final. She averaged 21.8 points in Scobey’s four tournament games, making 28 of 29 free throw attempts. Nelson added 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

Roy-Winifred’s twin towers helped the Outlaws to a runner-up finish, combining to average 29.3 points and 17.7 rebounds per game during the tournament. Both scored in double figures in all three games, and Heggem had two double-doubles. For the tournament, Boyce, a junior, averaged 15.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while Heggem, a freshman, added 13.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
