BILLINGS — The Three Forks Wolves will return to defend their State B girls title next week.
Kyle Olson scored a game-high 35 points, including 19 of 21 from the free throw line, as Three Forks held off a hard charge from Big Timber for a 58-48 win in the Southern B girls basketball divisional consolation final, claiming the South’s third and final spot to the State B tournament.
The Wolves looked like they would make easy work of the Herders, taking an 11-point lead in the second quarter, but Big Timber closed the half on a 10-0 run to get within one point at the break.
The game stayed close in the third, as Big Timber stayed within four heading into the final eight minutes, but the Wolves kept enough distance and took advantage at the free throw line down the stretch. Three Forks drew 24 fouls in the game, 13 by Olson alone. She also added seven steals.
Sydney Prather led Big Timber with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Wolves return to state for the third consecutive year. They won their third title in program history last season, after winning the Southern B.
