Helena Capital boys, girls over Missoula Big Sky

HELENA — The Helena Capital Bruins beat the Missoula Big Sky Eagles by a score of 61-25 in Western AA girls basketball action on Thursday.

The Bruins asserted themselves early, holding the Eagles to one point while scoring 10 of their own early in the first quarter. The Bruins did not let up as the game went on, doubling up the Eagles in in every quarter except the fourth where the Bruins put up 13 points to Big Sky’s seven points.

The Bruins will have no time to waste as they host the Helena High Bengals for the second installment in the crosstown rivalry series. The winner of the final game of the regular season will determine which team finishes first in the Western AA. Helena High took Game 1 by a score of 59-45.

The Big Sky Eagles’ loss to the Capital Bruins was their final game of the 2018-19 season.


HELENA — The Helena Capital boys, led by Trevor Swanson and Brady Martin, over-powered the Missoula Big Sky Eagles, 74-50 on Thursday. Swanson posted 16 points and Martin put up 14 points in the Bruins’ sixth win of the conference season.

The Bruins’ win puts them in a tie for third place with Helena High in the Western AA, as both teams have 6-5 records headed into the final game of the season for both Helena schools.

The Bruins and Bengals will meet on Feb. 23 at 4:30 p.m. to determine the third-place finisher in the Western AA.
