MISSOULA — Helena High might have lost its first game of the season last week, but the Bengals proved on Tuesday night why they still might be the favorite to bring home their third straight Class AA basketball title.

The Bengals jumped out to a 27-4 lead after one quarter and led Missoula Big Sky 44-12 at halftime. Helena cruised through the second half to win the Western AA clash, 72-24.

Future Montana Lady Grizzly Jamie Pickens dominated in the paint from the opening tip, reaching double figures in scoring in the first quarter. She finished with a game-high 18 points.

Helena improves to 16-1 overall and 10-1 in Western AA play. They’ll wrap up the regular season with a highly anticipated clash against 15-1 rival Helena Capital on Friday.

Big Sky falls to 0-11 in conference and 1-16 overall. The Eagles travel to Capital for their final regular-season game on Thursday.
