BUTTE — The Bozeman Hawks and Butte Bulldogs girls basketball teams squared off in an Eastern AA conference battle for another chapter of the historic rivalry between the two schools. Butte entered the game without a loss in conference play.
Butte entered Tuesday’s matchup with an eight-game winning streak, but the Bulldogs came out cold in the first quarter. Brittney Tierney provided the only basket in the entire first quarter for the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, the Hawks came out swinging, and they hit hard early on. Sophia Robinson and teammate Macy Mayer found easy baskets, penetrating the Bulldogs’ defense down low, cruising to an 11-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Butte rallied back quickly and only trailed 31-29 at half. Four quarters wouldn’t be enough to settle this one as the teams went back and forth throughout the second half, ultimately heading to overtime. Bozeman found itself ahead when the clock struck zero, winning by a final of 40-37.
