Look out Class C basketball, the Box Elder girls have some serious firepower.

One week after Lilly Gopher scored 35 points in a win over previously-unbeaten Fort Benton, teammate Joelnell Momberg tallied a state-best 37 points against Turner on Thursday evening. Momberg hit six 3-pointers and accumulated 20 points in the first half alone.

Momberg vaulted past Gopher, Power’s Jessie Maruska and Turner’s Sarah Billmayer as the top single-game scorer in girls basketball this season. Maruska had 35 points against Sunburst in December, while Billmayer scored the same in a win over Dodson on Dec. 21.

The same evening, Turner’s Cody Welsh had 36 points of his own against the Bears, making 10 field goals and four 3-pointers in a 77-53 win.

Ennis’ Trevor Swanson flirted with the top performance of the season on the boys basketball courts, but came three points shy of Wibaux’s Cobe Begger, who hit the 47-point mark against Jordan in early January. Swanson scored 44 points, sank eight 3-point field goals and was a perfect 6-of-6 shooting at the free throw line in the 75-64 win. Drummond’s Jonah Parke had 32 in a losing effort.

Melstone’s Brody Grebe also had 32 on Jan. 11, surpassing 2,000 career points in the process. Jordan’s Ed Murnion dropped 33 points on Terry on Jan. 12.

Each week, MTN Sports will update a list of the state’s “30-point club,” showcasing the performances of 30 points or more throughout the season.

The list below showcases some of the top-scoring performances of the 2018-2019 season. Please encourage your coaches and administrators to send statistics to sports@ktvh.com at the conclusion of games. If a 30-point performance is missing from the list, please send the official box score to sports@ktvh.com. Performances cannot be submitted without the official box score.
