HELENA — The Helena Capital girls basketball team opened up its season with a win in Bozeman on Dec. 8 by a score of 59-44. Though the Bruins will have a bit of time to rest before they take on Billings Senior on Dec. 14., they are slated to open the season with three consecutive road games, a task that first-year head coach Katie Garcin-Forba thinks will be a good way to gain experience once March rolls around.
“Our divisional tournament and our state tournament [are] on the road, and I think we have some experience to gain from that. We get to go play the Billings schools, which is a different look than what we’ve had in the past, early on in the season,” said Garcin-Forba. “We’re not looking at it as a disadvantage, to be on the road for the first three games. It’s just an opportunity to develop that mental toughness aspect that we want to keep getting better at.”
The Bruins won’t play their first home game until Dec. 18 when they take on the Butte Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
