HELENA– The Helena High Bengals girls basketball home opener saw both bright and dark spots for the reigning champs, but the outcome was all positive as the Bengals beat the Hawks, 48-35.
The Bengals came out swinging in full-court press, bearing down and holding the Hawks to only four points in the first quarter, while scoring 15 of their own. The Hawks paid no attention to the first quarter as they entered the second and held the Bengals to only three points, in turn tightening up the score to 22-17 as both teams headed to the locker rooms.
The Bengals wiped the memory of an abysmal second quarter from their thoughts and extended their lead another five points before the fourth quarter started and continued to run as they beat the Hawks.
The Bengals will have another week to prepare for their next non-conference match up against Billing Skyview on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. The Hawks will get right back at it when they face the Helena Capital Bruins on Dec. 8.
