HELENA — Three athletes at Helena Capital High School signed letters of intent to play collegiate sports Wednesday afternoon. Capital football player Brian Buschini will be headed to Missoula to play for the University of Montana and teammate Gus Hanson will play for the University of Montana Western.

“Very excited to get on campus and get to work,” said Bucschini. “See what I can do in terms of winning the job or not, and work my butt off for my team and go from there.”

For Hanson, though, playing football wasn’t on the radar until a stellar season led him to think playing college football was possible.

“I wasn’t really planning on playing football, and I had a pretty good year this year, and coaches started reaching out to me, and I thought I can do this,” said Hanson. “I did it and I‘m happy because I‘m going to play football.”

Montana Western nabbed two athletes Wednesday. Sydney Sheridan also committed to play basketball for the Bulldogs. Prior to signing her letter of intent, Sheridan gave a heartfelt speech to those who positively impacted her life.

“They say it takes a village and every one of you is my village; and I‘m so grateful. Every single one of you has impacted in my life. With the support and guidance, from coaches, my friends, my family, my teammates, seriously all of you guys have made an impact, and teachers, too,” said Sheridan. “None of this would happen without you guys. I‘m so grateful for each and everyone of you. I‘m excited to take the next chapter of my life and play basketball for the University of Montana Western.”
